Telefunken ECC802S

cberg,

Well, welcome to the demi-purgatory arcanity of NOS tubes!

I've never had the Telefunken ECC802S, but there was a long plate version like the photos. The micas are thick and shaped like old production, but I wonder though about the internal vertical clips with the horizontal tool marks- that doesn't appear to be in line with typical Telefunken workmanship.

The easiest way to check if they are Telefunken production is look up the skirts- between the pins on the bottom of the glass- and Telefunkens will have a tiny raised diamond shape- the "Raute" cast in the glass. I'm quite sure that any of the special premium line ECC80XS tubes (there were ECC801S=12AT7, ECC802S =12AU7, and ECC803S=12AX7) will have the diamond mark. There are many Telefunken branded tubes made by others- there were later Telefunken 6201 which were rebranded GEs and therefore legally Telefunkens, but without the diamond between the pins. On the other end, I have Siemens and Halske E80CF- the glamourous gold pinned 6BL8- and these have the diamond and are identical to the Telefnken branded E80CFs I have.

Sorry, I can't be more specific, I hope there are ECC802S owners who will comment.

The world of NOS tubes never ceases to amaze me with it's complication and subtlety.

Cheers,

Bambi B
