Tube gear comes in all kinds of flavors just like solid state stuff. I've heard tube gear that sucked and tube gear that smoked the best solid state I've heard.I guess the most obvious virtue of tube gear is a very relaxed depth to the music. Often times the trade-off is blunted transient detail, softer bottom end and less extension on top. Again, this is a generalization and not a hard rule. Tubes can do all that well if your budget is strong enough.
Everyone should spend a little time with tubes to find out if they floatcherboat. Unless you are an absolute resolution and detail freak, you might find tubes to be just what you were looking for.
