Re: Mullard 6L6GC...Ah-Ha...

...The 6L6s in your images are EXACTLY like mine. They're Japanese although I don't know actual mfgr. I asked for ID assistance here back in May 06. I suspected mine was Japanese but wasn't sure. One responder to my inquiry stated that the give-away was the the welded and black plate with angled halo getter.

The fact that your 6L6s come from a Heath HV PS is another clue. I've been thru a number of these supplies and the majority have used a pair of Japanese 6L6s as pass devices. In these supplies the 6L6s were clearly labeled "Made in Japan" and were pretty good copies of the RCA blackplate.

Although your (and my) Japanese 6L6s may not possess that highly ebayable mystique of US or European mfgr, from everything I can determine they're really quite good. They're probably better than any of the current mfgr Russian, Chinese or Slovac 6L6s out there today. I suspect that many NOS Japanese tubes from the end of the golden age will be gaining a new level of respect as the stocks of NOS US and European tubes becomes depleted.
