More than likely you will get more volume out of a 12AX7 unless your headphones load down the driver too much. You get lots of voltage gain from the 12AX7 but not much current.There is much written on expensive 12AX7 tubes here. Do a search. Just remember that throwing large amounts of cash at tubes will not transform an ordinary circuit into something esoteric.
