...the Groove Tube 12AX7M; lots of us have found it quite nice sounding, slightly warm and with enough treble that's not hard or edgy.
On outputs, I suggest the Penta/Shuguang KT-88SC. They sound well balanced in my ASL 'Canes; $29 each last time I checked.
