Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I recently purchased an Antique Sound Labs MG-SI15DT amplifier. it came to me with "JJ" 12AX7's and Valve art KT88's. My initial impression is that the amp is rather hard and thin sounding in both the triode and pentode modes. Changing the 12AX7's to Tunsgrams was not much help but some Polish made International Rectifiers seemed to smooth things out a bit. I have Amperex, GE, Sylvania,RCA and Telefunkens in my stash any suggestions? Also suggestions for output tubes would be appreciated. Is there other tubes (EL34's, 6550's?)that can be used and if so do I have to make any changes other than rebiasing? Thanks in advance for your help.

- Run your 'X7s thru the amp a pair at a time and LISTEN. I'd also try... - jeffreybehr 10:01:32 11/15/06 (0)
