Swanson,Thanks for the answer. You seem to be something of an expert on gas tubes, so here's another question. Can you compare noise of gas tubes with that of zeners? I read somewhere that 6.2 volt zeners have extremely low noise. If you're designing a power supply and were silling to use a pass device, then presumably you could use your voltage reference of choice. So I guess what I'm after is which is better in an absolute sense, gas or zener?
