The max screen voltage G2 on a 6550-A is 450 Volts. On the SV6550C that value is reduced to 400 Volts.The GE spec sheet for the 6550-A allows for Ultralinear operation at 450 Volts Plate and Screen.
Some designers will regulate the screen voltage so as not to exceed 400 Volts.
Apart from this KT-88 and 6550-A are 'generally' interchangeable with
noticeable differences in performance.The KT-88 is a more robust tube capable of more power.
Lots more differences exist at the spec-sheet level so it's always best to check with other Asylum members to see what has worked best in a specific amplifier.
I find the advice here to be accurate and money saving in the long run.
