Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

So I got this great sounding integrated amp that rates over 500V plate voltage. In one year I have gone through 3 sets of power tubes. All 3 different brands and are on the warning list below. My audio friend has heard my sad story and sends me this quote today from a Tube Website. Can anyone tell me if there is any truth to this statement? Ultimately I think I will try either the JJ's or the C's or the amp is going in the river.(statement from website)
*WARNING: Do not use Chinese (any brand), Svetlana/EH, Sovtek or Tung
Sol*(TM)*-reissue- KT88, 6550 or EL34 power tubes in amps with plate
voltages over 500-500V. We have had lots of reports of tube failures,
blown amps and worse. **For best reliability in high voltage and high power amps, use SED
Winged C or JJ Power tubes.*
