The hum may be more of a ground issue. I had some hum I had to track down on my own tube phono stage. It was only a simple grouding wire issue from a loosened ground wire on the cartridge. Sorry but no constant hum noise is usual or normal for any of the vacuum tube amplifiers and preamplifiers that I have ever owned. The exception to that statement were some of the really old ones with power supply problems that were then repaired. Perhaps you can talk to the dealer you bought your unit from for some tips? Jim can probably offer your better solutions, or perhaps some of the other folks lurking here who own your model preamplifier will chime in. Good luck! John
