MIchaelActually I was running my EI KT90's (pre NATO bombing of the EI factory)in triode at about 520V B+ and biased at about 50 mA each tube. I saw a slight reddish glow from the inside of one tube (I don't think it was the plate), and I suspected it was the screen grid (esp having read all the horror stories from Jim McShane about recent runs of the tube). Later I turned down the B+ voltage to about 470V and everything has been fine. But I'm curious to know why that tube glowed at all as I may be using the 6550/KT 88 later on in triode and they are less robust than the KT90.
A related question: it was common wisdom to use a 100 ohm resistor to connect pins 3 & 4 to run the tubes in triode. Is it safe to use 80 ohms? (I got some Riken Ohm 2W's which I wish to try out).
