You've piqued my interest, so I went ahead and cracked five more NU black glass tonight (to those shocked at the thought, they all test poor or close to minimum). Of the five, four were flat plates and one more was a round plate design. There are also at least two very different mica designs for the flat plates. So my conclusion is there are at least two or three versions of NU black glass 6SN7s (I suppose the two flat plate versions can count as one type since only the mica structures differ).The round plate had the 6SN7 hexagon acid etched on the glass and I highly doubt it's a mistake, especially since I've come across multiple round plate ones and I've also read other texts (can't recall where) stating NU are round plates (admitedly vague texts as it does not describe which type of NU). Perhaps tooling was different in different plants, one using the old 6SL7 tooling. I'm speculating here.
