Very interesting. I also have a PV-12A that, a few years ago, developed a failed large-value poly cap in the onboard phono stage that just happens to be mounted right next to a tube socket. I had removed/replaced the tubes probably 4-5 times by then to either change tube types or clean the pins and sockets. The tech thought, and I sort of concurred, that the cap failure was most likely just a random component failure. I thought that maybe having this cap mounted so closely to a tube that perhaps it was heat damage that caused the failure. Now, I'm sitting here going hmmmmm... maybe I need to be more careful about board flexure during tube removal/replacement. Seems like maybe my cap failure was mechanically induced.
