I have a SE tube amp built by McAlister Audio in Canada. Peter McAlister designs his circuits (pp, SE, preamp, phono pre) around these tubes.I am very impressed by what I have heard. I replaced an Eastern Electric MinMax with Peter's preamp that uses sweep tubes. The sweep tubes have all the detail, imaging etc and more drive/dynamics.
The SE amp has deeper and tighter bass, smoother mids and is more dynamic than the PP el34 based tube amp I had before.
McAlister claims the sweep tubes are good for between 10,000 and 20,000 hours. With an average cost of around $5.00...it makes good financial sense. That they soudn so good is a bonus.
I have a friend in the states that picked up a used pp amp also made by McALister and he says it beats his pp tube amp (Consonance Ella) in every category.
Regards
