The higher performance tube rectifiers are TV damper diodes. The only disadvantage is you in most cases have to use two for a full wave circuit, except for the 6BY5. Most of them are 6 volt and have seperate cathodes:6DA4A, 6AX4GT, The 6AX5GT is a good unit as well as the 6BY5GA. The 5 volt rectifiers you mentioned are both good units. You have to look at their current requirements in terms of how much it takes to heat them and whether they provide B+ current for your application running flat out. But you generally have to go with what type of filament winding your power transformer has. These windings are hi-pot tested for high voltage insulation. If the tranny has a 5 volt rectifier winding then you have to use a 5 volt rectifier. It's a good idea to use a molded octal socket instead of a socket with a metal saddle because you need to back these leads off from the chassis. If you don't it might arc over! Good luck! Ray Hughes
