I also have hard time with 5751 in my Oakley Image S pre.
12AX7 is a very tricky tube. Current production 12AX7 are marginal and inferior in comparision with 50s-60s Euro or American tubes.
I ve collected 12ax7 and 12au7 tubes for more then 15 years.In my pre 5751 never outperformed top 12ax7 like
- Philips 50s long plate
- Valvo 50s long plate
- Tungsram 60s
- Lorenz 60s long plate
- Siemens 50s long plate
- RCA long black plate
My advice is to try some of mentioned tubes before any 5751 tubes, particularly in well balanced and transparent system.Regards
