Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I tried 5751's in my phono section and that didn't work out at all. I tried them in my CD player with mixed results. I had them in my ARC D76A for a long time. I liked the way they changed the sound. They made the amp sound more hifi. They recessed the midrange and brought out more treble and bass.A few months back I bought some DIY silver interconnect cable from partsconnexion. Although it was expensive I didn't like it at first. It was too bright in my system.
One day I decided to experiment with 12ax7's in my D76A again. The NOS Tungsols I installed were very detailed and I needed to tweek the small tubes for a little more warmth. I found a combination that sounded really good.
Now I tried the silver interconnects again. Wow! Now I can really hear the bennefits of silver. My system has never been so detailed and beutiful sounding. It's almost like having a 70 watt per channel SET. It seems like it anyway.
I guess the moral of the story is intercoonects are probably a better tweek than replaceing 12ax7'a with 5751's.
