William, hi. There are so many options on this. I will have to study C33. 12BY7 is a great driver overlooked by many. Since the Sound of the final tube is intimately involved with the driver's sound this can be tough decision. Ultimately (big supposition) I like the idea of using a round anode tube for the driver (75TL) interstage coupled to 300B. I have long thought about why the Type 50 sounds better than the 300B (to my ears). What I keep coming back to is the geometry of the cathode, grid, anode configuration. The shape of the anode is more compact (more cubic) than the 300B which has a tall chimney anode. The globe 50 does not have this long dimension. Why, then, does the 50 sound so much different from the 300B? Except for heater/cathode voltage they are virtually interchangeable. I am thinking the more equal geometry of the globe 50 anode is an integral part of how the tube sounds. Next consider the size of the area of vacuum in a globe tube versus ST or other shape. It is Much Larger. While a mere electrical comparison may indicate interelectrode capacitances that are somewhat different I believe there is more at work here than meets the eye. Exactly what I am not prepared to say - as yet.
