To my ears, with the D70, choice of 6CG7/6FQ7 makes little sonic difference. They are implemented as a cathode follower(cross-coupler) and driver in this circuit.

But of your two choices I would pick the silver tops. If there is any difference, my ears say the cleartops have just a touch too much energy on top.

I personally run Sylvania 6CG7 grey plates in my D70s.
