Over time, from use as well as being turned on and off, some tubes will become noisy. It starts with an infrequent pop, but then progresses to the sound of static pops that some have described as a pop corn popper or an old out-of-tune VW bug engine. If the pops move from one channel to the other after swapping tubes, then that confirms the problem.
