The W suffix denotes ruggardized build quality for the military, although in actuality, the original 5687 was designed for military applications anyhow. The A and B suffix denotes improvements in max plate dissipation and voltage (e.g. B > A > no-suffix). Any 5687WA or 5687WB will work in 5687 applications. In rare instances where the tube is driven very hard, some 5687 may not work if the amp is designed for 5687WA/WB.
