Matt,First off, everyone has their own likes and dislikes in audio. I my mind the construction, parts selection, and duty cycle rating of pro gear make them vastly superior to most consumer gear of the same era. But there are some circuits that are better than others.
The first amps you showed, IPC 1027, appear to have Peerless transformers, but I can not be positive. The schematic is listed as a Simplex design, and the circuit is a differential (not used by Altec TTBOMK). Though Western Electric used some differential circuits, this one is not like them. The input transformer is not used to split phases. Rather it is a grounded grid, cathode coupled design. The WE 124 amps are somewhat similiar, but this clearly not the same circuit.
The output stage is class A. Though I am not a huge fan of 6L6's, I have owned some Western Electric differential amps that were quite astonishing on the right speakers.
My advice would be to keep the ipc 1027's and sell the other ones to finance a proper restoration. Class A, push-pull differential is hard to beat, and with theiron on those amps it would be a no brainer for me.
Let me know if I can help you further. I have a fair amount of experience seeling this kind of equipment and know people who specialize in its restoration (very good people).
Take care,
Rodney
