Yes it probably is in many ways as is the valve arts.The thing is I have a 5 year old quad of the solid plates i got from ludovic the nidge and when I put them next to the genelex I about fainted.They actually had better midrange detail and nobody knew this but thats why penta is getting so much money for them because they can.
The guitar market for a long time was driving the audiophile market to making them think the vintage tubes were the best sounding bar none..Then the guys like Jim Mcshane and myself started posting our findings and we found that it was no longer true and the audiophile market isnt looking for distortion as the guitar market is.A modded or upgraded vintage amp performs very well with new production tubes in just about every case.
