Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Well after really liking the OS TS 6550 but having one go thermal, I have to either try to find another one that matches or go with another tube. I'm thinking I will have break down and try the chinese kt88. In the meantime I put the EI KT90's back in and biased then to the 55ma recommended in the manual. They sound pretty good. But after having more experience with other tubes I'm not sure if I like them as much as I thought. They sound good at moderate levels. Midrange is clear and warm. They are not as warm as SED but are close and have a little more treble. The EI's have more bass than I remember. I think more than any other tube I have treid. They sound good at moderate levels but sound like somthig is missing. I keep turning them up and because of the amount of bass these tubes have they start to distort sooner than other tubes I have tried. When cranked these tubes just lose it. They become distrted. They sound like they would work well in a Marshall. Should I try under or over biasing them? What affect will it have on the sound?
