Re: Leak ST-20 tube rolling

I've used the ST-20 and LS-3/5A's before (I still have and love
both the amp and speakers). You will find the ARC amp has things
better and worse in conjunction with you speakers, etc.

I'm not a big fan of Japanese tubes, IMO they can bet bettered by
most tubes. Don't use the 5751 in that amp, it works better to
use the 12AX7 the circuit was designed for. Based on those details,
I'd change out the 12AX7's first with whatever NOS you can find that
are reasonably priced. The output tubes should be changed to
matching (not necessarily matched) tubes of any sort, lots of times
it's easiest and yields great results to find some off brand such as
Westinghouse and buy a quad of those. The ST-20 is pretty easy on
output tubes, the quad you buy should last a very long time.

Any English or Holland 5AR4 will sound better and likely be more
reliable than the one you're using, you have a little time to roll and replace tubes, get what you can afford as you go.

If you're finding that the Leak has enough power to run the LS-3/5A,
be happy and keep listening!
