I am reminded of a television program I once saw about the importation of a premium leather sofa from Mexico called a 'Smelgoway', but enough of my decorating problems. The issue that concerned me about your problem is that the odor presented itself after long listening periods. One thing you might check if you smell the odor again is whether or not the transformers, output or power, are overly hot. Can you put your hand on them and leave it there for a couple of seconds. The smell may just be indicating to you that your output tubes need rebiasing. On the other hand, it might be indicating that the original owner never rebiased the amp, and along the way he blew up 10 pairs due to neglect. Check for the heat.
