I heat them up to 350 F. The writing on the glass doesn't even discolor at that temperature. I believe from what I can reseach that is well below the operating range of the tubes.
Again, the better tubes used a hydrogen bake out before assembly in order to purge the heavier gasses. The tube is pummped and sealed and then the getter flashed. You are very correct in that simply playing and using the tube will cause some outgassing. I simply find that external activation of the getter helps the out gassing decrease. Works really well on Russian tubes I may add. I don't think they employ the hydrogen bake outs.
