I'll be interested to see any follow-ups to Gordy's question as I'm having the same issue with my CJ PV-12A preamp. I'm using a medium-output Benz Glider and find I have too much phono stage gain as well. In fact, the gain is so high that I end up with the volume control in a low enough setting that channel balance becomes skewed thanks to the cheap volume pot CJ used. I saw a post here somewhere that stated that use of 5751s in place of 12AX7s in an RIAA phono stage would cause HF rolloff. If I can't find a reasonable way to reduce gain I'm just going to go with a lower output cartridge.
