hi - i'm new to the board and just signed on so that i can add my 2cents to the other answers to your quicksilver phono pre tube question. i have the same unit. i suggest you try an amperex (i.e., phillips) 6dj8, preferably the ring getter model, although the a frame model is also nice. just make sure its a quiet one. also, i have found the 12ax7 to make less difference than the 6dj8 in this unit. if you want to try a different 12ax7, i suggest the ge tube that kevin deal sells. very nice tube and not too pricey.
