I had a pair of Fried Betas, nice sound, not much bass, but the tweeters kept blowing. I sent them off to the factory a couple of times. These days, it wouldn't even be worth doing that. I have no recollection of what became of them.
I also had Spendor SP-1s. Cost about $850 the pair, circa mid-1980s something. Here again, not a lot of bass, not too dynamic, but a crystal clear, neutral sound. They were on Stereophile's Class A list for a couple of issues and then disappeared without an explanation. After I retired them, they sat in a closet for a number of years until I finally sold them for about what I had originally paid. They were in pristine condition. The new owner was ecstatic. Kind of wish I still had them.
