Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: I wonder if it is worth trying to..

A suggestion;
It has never been easier or cheaper to take good measurements, they don't tell you what you need to do, but they show you what "it" is doing.
ARTA is an excellent measurement program that is now free, there are others too. All you need is that program and a usb audio interface and a measurement style microphone. I use an interface called Motu 2ch that is good and not expensive.

It wasn't that long ago when there were very few ways and before that no way to measure loudspeakers other than with an oscillator, sound level meter and paper. Now one can go so much farther than that and just listening and tweaking.
Add a crossover program like LSPcad and with the driver measurements, you can find the ideal values for crossover parts (more important than part pedigree) or design your own crossover.
Don't be afraid, there is a lot on line about what to do and DIY is fun and for me anyway, a hard to beat feeling when something you made works well.
Good luck!
