My advice? Just don't.

THere's a change whatever you smear on there could react with something. May not affect the rubber, but may react with adhesives.

What do you mean by "stiff"? Mechanically more rigid? Cracking? Drying out?

If you can use DIY techniques to determine the T/S parameters you can tell if this perceived stiffness is changing the performance a.k.a. specs of the drivers.

Look, I'm just saying if they're vintage, and dear to your heart, be careful.

You can end up destroying something trying to fix something that might not even need fixing.

You know what happens when you try and take a fruit fly off of the jello... just leave the little guy on there. He won't eat much. :-)
