Most of speakers sound like speakers. TAD TD4001 sounded half decent to me only in one horn-German Kugelhorn advertised for Altec 288 with addition throat adapter from 2 to 1,4"
Unconditionally best horn sound I heard was EV Patrician IV and I heard all "glorious" horn systems hotly discussed on this forum (heard them on audio shows admittedly ) None of the "manufacturers" could set up the system to sound significantly better than PA stack in a dancing club. Not my fault. Second best system was a basement system of Dough "Bandersnatch" That's becuase I can't separate the influence of his "Black Magus" tube amplification from the seemingly accidental pile of horn junk staked one over another. Romy, if you filter out 90% of verbal selfmasturbating metaphysics is absolutely right in everything which matters. If he says that driver this and this is spitting disgusting (but pleasant) Vaseline like pings (certain fostex tweeters T500MKII included) than it is an exact description of the sound. TAD T4001 has the same quality of HF but it is far more irritating in UHF range. It is a totally disgusting driver and maybe it's true that you have to squash it into TH4001 and heavily EQ it but it's above of pay grade of either Japs at TAD or CAR level from what I heard (when I could still hear). Lowther in big front horn can sound great, far better than any half arsed CD based horn and it's a simple project if not cheap. In essence, it's not about audio but camaraderie and longing for a some sense of belonging. It would be nice if after all this talk there were some great systems to listen too, but there are none. It's just the usual and what I also have at home :)
