RE: Scan Speak "Discovery" series drivers

Thanks for chiming in Brian.

Yeah, I seldom do parts swap-outs because they usually require significant mods somewhere else, but in this it's an l-pad tweak.

So far, all I can say is... the TG-45 sounds very different to my ears. It's got initial "detail appeal" but I wonder if the TG-45 has the same highish 5th order harmonic distortion of it's TG-15 cousin.

As far as John goes, well, I really love how scientific his approach is - and his theory - especially about transient accurate reproduction and group delay - really made me do a deep dive. In fact, I spent a number of YEARS playing with group-delay correction to validate a time-aligned WMTMW design. After quite a bit of work, I achieved a really nice impulse response measurement. The best part was that because the speakers were PC-based active, I could switch between the corrected and non-corrected filters practically on the fly.

The worse part... was I could not hear a vast improvement for the life of me. Ah well, such is the plight of being an audiophile with tin ears I guess... And thus ended my quest for transient-accurate reproduction or sneaky digital means of doing group-delay correction.

Learned a lot, had a lot of fun, but... I think that ship has sailed for me.

Cheers,
Presto
