Personally, I think there are any number of good ones out there, but the good ones tend to be kinda pricey. Sure, audiophiles have heard of ATC, PMC, and Meridian, but there are other pro-oriented monitors that sound great too...Westlake, Genelec, Dynaudio, Blue Sky, all come to mind. The thing is, with most pro-oriented monitors, you really need to tame your listening space in order to appreciate them. This is because most are near-field monitors. My philosophy: Better to tame the room than tame the speakers. :)I use Quad 12L Actives, and lemme tell ya, they sound sooo different from their passive consumer counterparts as to make you scratch your head. I love them. Actives are just so much more dynamic and lively sounding. They make instruments and voices sound like the real thing...as opposed to the usual "audiophile" blanket thrown over the tweeters.
