First, nice post. Second, an observation. In your summary, you provided information on the rooms relative to two speakers. The Avalon in a damped room, which sounded so good. The Gallo in a small, bright room, the speaker sounding bright. All too often we may be describing, to some extent, the sound of the room, and not the speaker. I would be interested in knowing some of the room qualities for the other speakers.Disclosure: I own the Gallo 3.1. Over the weekend, I played Roy Wood's Mustard (recently purchased used), and it was clearly, to my ears, compressed, with little treble, and with muddy mids. On the other hand, I have many recordings which err in the opposite direction and sound bright. Same speaker, same room, same ancillaries.
Which, I think, reaffirms that you can never really know the speakers full potential until you listen in your own room, or a room in which you are intimately familiar with.
