How to assess damage to speakers?

74.96.78.83

Hi all,

I made a mistake with my six month old speakers. I would greatly appreciate any advice you can offer.

I have a pair of Wilson Sophia 2 with a Musical Fidelity A5 integrated amp.

The other day I was listening to music at a volume that you would expect from sitting in the first row at a symphony. Probably what most people would set the volume to for concentrated listening and enjoyment.

Afterwards, I stopped the music and switched the input to my XBox console with a game already running. So, the speakers jumped from silence to a fairly loud "bang" (the type of sound effect from metal hitting metal - think THX). Of course, I quickly reduced the volume.

I am confident that the volume was not too loud for the speakers. Before purchase, my dealer demonstrated drum solos at more impressive volumes.

I am mostly concerned with the rapid change in dynamics - from absolute silence to a loud sound.

How can I assess whether any damage has been done? Thank you for your help.
