My first enlightenment was "Chase". Saw them at the fairgrounds when I was a kid. After that, had my Pop take me to all kinds of jazz acts(Thad Jones & Mel Lewis, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, LA 4, Chuck Mangione, to name a few). Fell in love with Mel Lewis's loose style.
