a walnut size organ around the urethra /bladder junction. Cancer of this organ tends to metastisize locally. Can often be controlled with hormonal therapy or a burst of radiation. The PSA is a tumor marker that is often elevated in the presence of prostate cancer. Disease that is spreads beyond the organ can be painful. Chemotherpay can help to control pain- but likely does not extend survival. This disease has been found in greater than 80% of 80 yo men on post mortum...
