Listening with cheapo PC speakers it's easy to hear it sounds much different... better in some ways, worse in others. I don't know what the relative position of the two rigs was, but that would certainly account for significant differences. Also, the two configurations are wildly different, and as expected, the Blumlein pattern picks up a lot more venue ambiance, so the crowd is more audible. (Both rigs use the same preamp & A/D converter, the Grace Design V3, by the way.)In general, I find that LD mics have a richer tone, in this case, its most noticeable with the fiddle. Also, I tend to get the impression of greater soundstage depth. Neither are the Schoeps' strong suits, but they do excel in making the best of poor acoustical environments. As with most compromises, it's a case of picking your poison.
Enjoy!
