...this is a fascinating book by Barney Hoskyns that chronicles the Southern California music scene from the mid-1960s on, focusing on the Laurel Canyon/Troubador connection that led David Geffen to found Asylum Records, etc.It begins with the Byrds and their shifting line-up which led to a cross-pollenation with Buffalo Springfield and resulted in Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - who he claims were cast as the 'American Beatles'.
