on this matter, and I only recently applied its results to Metallica's Black Album.
The labeling of the Black album may be even worse than BSS, if that is possible. It states the 5.1 was mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in NYC, and the stereo is mastered at the same facility by George Marino.
Now how is one to know from that labeling that the stereo track is a mastered "down mix"? I didn't UNTIL my Marantz DV-8300 displayed "down mix."
