Deep Purple: Each indivudual band member is generally regarded as VERY good by nearly everyone's standards. Ritchie Blackmore is considered in many circles as one of the greatest rock guitarists EVER. Blackmore brought classical scaling to rock guitar which damned near EVERY rock guitarist since has copied. They are considered to be one of the founding fathers to Heavy Metal. Machine Head was a ground breaking album that is still considered one of the best rock albums of all time. In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, Made in Japan, Who Do We Think We Are, Burn, Perfect Strangers...ALL great albums.Guns and Roses: One great album, a few average albums. Nothing truly innovative about anything they did. I still contend they stole they're whole image from early Aerosmith. (Scarf on mike stand included.)
Nirvana: Well, they did kick off the whole grunge thing, so I guess if drug induced, sloppy negative music is your thing, great. Just a bunch of Heroin addicts who could've been a lot better than they were if you ask me. Alice in Chains should be above Nirvana. At least the musicians were talented.
Kiss: Great party music and the whole makeup thing, average talent, Kiss Alive was fairly groundbreaking as a live work, but sorry, they don't compare to Deep Purple.
And the Clash......Perhaps I shouldn't have included them since it's apples to oranges. I view them as pre-grunge grunge/punk. Whole different thing.
I don't ignore any of these bands contributions (except Guns and Roses) I just don't think they compare to Deep Purple.
