There are no bad Richard Thompson albums, though Sunnyvista and Strict Tempo are probably for completists only. Given your stated preferences, I recommend another live record called More Guitar. It may only be available from his website but it's worth tracking down. Kenny Aronoff on drums propels Richard to places that even the great Dave Mattacks couldn't. It's the "heaviest" Thompson album, with much intense electric improvisation. Good luck and welcome to RT fanhood. Resistance is futile.
