To simply judge a recording based on its musical merits cannot be enough to 'properly' judge it as a work of art?
While I like the idea that knowledge, and research, can assist in such judgment, I don't believe that it is necessary, or even crucial. Sometimes some of the best insights I've read on various recordings came from people who knew nothing, or next to nothing, about the artist, or the conditions that related to the recording's inspiration or creation.
I like plenty of records that others consider to be overrated, believe me. But being that they're as good to me as they are, I couldn't care less, much less take it personally, if someone thinks a recording is overrated (though of course a response may seem warranted, depending on the nature of the thread, and/or the poster). Though I may disagree, I can understand why someone would use a term like this, and this happens to be a recording that some feel that way about. If that bothers you, that's unfortunate, and there's no reason to hurt anyone's feelings over something like this. But I don't buy that stuff about what's necessary to 'properly' judge a recording, not at all.

Not in MY house it didn't.
