Uhhh...I search the net and listen to different forms of media for music all the time...both as entertainment and searching for something I may want to purchase. Ultimately, I would agree that the music of the 70s and 80s was better than most of the things I hear today. My elderly dad ( who listens to all kinds of jazz ) laments that there aren't many groundbreakers today. He says "I don't hear a Coltrane or an Art Pepper or anyone else in this stuff. It's either smooth jazz or a rehash of something somebody did in 1955." I tend to feel the same way about a lot of the pop and supposedly "edgy" music that's recommended to me. Melody is less important and many of the songs that are supposedly melodic are mostly inferior to the songwriting of the 70s and 80s.
