Not being a guitarist (but a drummer back in the day), does that mean that the cutouts in the body gave better access to the upper frets? I always had just appreciated the distinct tone of the SG that it gave to bands like Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Carlos at that time, Spit James of Keef Hartley Band and a few others. I seem to remember John Cipollina of Quicksilver had one with a tremolo (whammy) bar.
