I listened to several tracks from this new 5-CD set on Qobuz last night, through my living room TV system (Raspberry Pi 4, NuForce DDA-120, Polk R300's). I wasn't in a particularly musical mood but from the first track I heard, that changed rather quickly.
The recordings portray Joni's voice superbly, most of the ones I listened to were simply her voice and guitar. They allowed all the nuances of her voice to be heard clearly without a lot of accompaniment by other instruments. I can't wait to listen to these on my main system.
I'm reminded of a memory from high school days in Hawaii, 1973 or 1974. A friend who I think worked as a photographer for the school paper was assigned to cover a Joni Mitchell concert. The next day she said she hadn't taken a single picture - she was so mesmerized by hearing Joni's voice that she forgot to take any pictures!
