Re: Classical music similar to Mahler?

If you want a composer who sounds ALOT like Mahler, try the symphony by Hans Rott. They were, IIRC, students together and wrote in the Wunderhorn mode. Rott sounds a bit like a Mahler/Bruckner blend. Apparently, he went mad in his 20's, destroyed most of his own work, and then died young. Only the symphony and a few lesser pieces made it through. Shame.
