When Goebel came out with his fast tempi, people thought it was a joke. I've reached the point where I find those tempi absolutely correct, and all the preceding versions too slow. Il Giardino Armonico, for me, are just wonderful. Together with Akademie fur Alte Werke they just transformed what Bach playing was for me. I don't think it's the soloists that are the whole story - it's the rhythms, the bounce, the articulation, the style. Some bands have it, others don't.
